VETTEL YAWNFEST AT SPA

Image
First, let me get my frustration out, not out of the way, just out because it is always there. I, and quite a bit of other F1 fans waited for almost 4 weeks for some F1 action to satisfy our hunger. Not only was there no F1 action for 4 weeks, there was hardly anything to read for 4 weeks too. And the next race after that was Spa, the best track ever in F1 and the world. It was supposed to be a fantastic race with overtaking, team strategy changes due to the weather and balls out overtaking on Eau Rouge. Instead what did we get? A yawnfest courtesy of Sebastian Vettel. And from lap 1 at that! And he never looked back, never was really challenged and the RB6 never had any problems. It was another perfect race for Vettel and Red Bull. Well, half of Red Bull at least. The other half with Mark Webber seems to be having all the problems with a clutch issue on the formation lap. Again he got a bad start and was swallowed by the field. Why is that? Is Red Bull putting all resources in...

BELGIUM GP 2013

Image
The Belgian Grand Prix is an automobile race, part of the Formula One World Championship. The first national race of Belgium was held in 1925 at the Spa region's race course, an area of the country that had been associated with motor sport since the very early years of racing. To accommodate Grand Prix motor racing, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps race course was built in 1921 but it was only used for motorcycle racing until 1924. After the 1923 success of the new 24 hours of Le Mans in France, the Spa 24 Hours, a similar 24-hour endurance race, was run at the Spa track. Since inception, Spa-Francorchamps has been known for its unpredictable weather. At one stage in its history it had rained at the Belgian Grand Prix for twenty years in a row. Frequently drivers confront a part of the course that is clear and bright while another stretch is rainy and slippery. The Belgian Grand Prix was designated the European Grand Prix six times between 1925 and 1973, when this title was an...

CAN ANYONE STOP VETTEL?

Image
This feature article was written by Jo Soucek from Pitpass and is reproduced here in part for the benefit of F1 fans out there to read in case any of you missed it. The full article can be found HERE . In the wake of the Hungarian GP, the chatter was about Lewis Hamilton's chances of fighting for the 2013 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship. However, I think the question we should really be asking is whether anyone can stop Sebastian Vettel. With just over half the season gone, Vettel leads the World Championship by 38, 39 and 48 points from Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Hamilton respectively. He's certainly not unassailable, with 2010 and 2012 demonstrating that leads of that magnitude are not secure. But it will be difficult. Over the first half of the season, no one driver and team combination has emerged as the challenger to Vettel. This has worked in his favour as rivals have taken points off each other as performance oscillates from track to track. At the Hu...

2013 F1 SEASON DRIVER RANKINGS 22 TO 6

Image
It's been a very quiet and slow 3 weeks into the summer break. We have another week plus to go until the next race in Spa. A fantastic track, one of my favorites and the best on the calendar. For the meantime, here is a ranking of the drivers this season based on performance as done by Keith of F1Fanatic. This list gives ranking from number 22 down to number 6. The top 5 will be published soon. The Formula One field of 2013 features five champions, five rookies and a dozen more drivers vying to come out on top. Separating out the driver’s contribution from the advantage or disadvantage handed to him by their car is always a challenge, but that’s exactly what the Driver Rankings aims to achieve. Drivers 22 to 7 here. The second part of the 2013 half-term driver rankings features the drivers in the lower half of the top ten. Drivers 10 to 6 here.
