LAUNCH SEASON IS HERE!

Image
Wake up! Wake up! The launch season is almost here and somebody has launched. With the launch season not expected until next week, the team released the first image of the radical new VJM07 - the livery mainly black with the sponsors' logos adding extra colour - on Twitter. Although it is difficult to judge any design changes, the new car's nose is a lot lower, as demanded by the new regulations. The only image we have is the car from the side and so far it looks fine to me. The nose does droop quite low but we've seen this before - on the McLaren MP4-23, also known as the "dolphin nose". I thought the MP4-23 was quite ok to look at. We'll have to wait and see more images of the VJM07 from different angles to see how the nose really looks like. Vijay Malya had this to say: The VJM07 looks stunning and the new livery reflects the way Sahara Force India is evolving," team owner and principal Vijay Mallya said on the official website. "I...

2013 NEW CAR LAUNCHES

Image
What a week this has been. 5 formula one teams launched their cars this week, you know what they say - When it rains, it pours. One day you're bubbling from the mouth on the floor with not much F1 news or stories to keep you barely alive, the next you're bleeding at the eyes trying to keep up with the flood. But as F1 fanatics, we love it and just can't have enough. It's like chocolate or cheese - you can never have enough. So, the teams that launched this week were McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus, Sauber and Force India. Mercedes will launch on Monday at Jerez although their online PR stunt to create buzz for the W04 crashed their servers . Not a good omen, someone online posted that maybe their car should be called the "W404". Good one. Their online reveal can be found at www.mercedes-amg-f1.com . As we all know no F1 team will reveal the exact car that will be having the exact parts they will use in the test so these pictures here will be nice to look at and ...

ATTACKING THE INDIAN GRAND PRIX

Image
The Indian Grand Prix is on this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida near New Delhi, India. As with all grand prix races, the right preparation can decide where you end up on Sunday evening. Even with all the practice and testing and forecasting on Friday and even qualifying on Saturday, the strategy plays an important part in any race. The Buddh International Circuit proved popular with drivers last season on its inaugural event. It is the second fastest race track on the calendar after Monza, with an average lap speed of 145mph. But it’s a tricky one on strategy. Last year the harder tyre was too slow relative to the softer one so the strategies were quite skewed. This year the teams will hope to play it like they did in Japan, favouring two stints on the hard tyre, but there is a possibility that one stop might turn out to be the way to go. As the teams have so little data to work with from last year and with different tyres this year, the free practice s...

INDIAN GP DRS ZONES

Image
The Indian GP has 2 DRS zones this year just like last year but the second DRS zones has been extended by 80 meters. This should make it easier to get alongside another car and try to outbrake into the corner. Although to be honest, sometimes DRS does make races especially overtaking too easy. The DRS zone on the start/finish straight will remain unchanged, as will the two detection points at the exit of the penultimate corner and on the approach to turn three.
