LEWIS HAMILTON’S MIAMI GP: A FRUSTRATING RACE AMID FERRARI’S STRATEGIC MISSTEPS

Ferrari Formula 1 race engineers during Miami Grand Prix 2025 appearing relaxed, referencing Lewis Hamilton’s “tea break” comment about Ferrari’s slow race decisions; F1 fans highlight Ferrari strategy issues.

A Challenging Start from P12

The 2025 Miami Grand Prix commenced under the Florida sun, with Max Verstappen leading the pack from pole position. Lewis, starting from P12 after a disappointing qualifying session, faced an uphill battle. Despite a strong showing in the sprint race, where he finished third, Lewis's Ferrari lacked the pace to challenge the frontrunners at the start. The initial laps saw Lewis holding position, unable to capitalize on opportunities due to the car's limitations and the competitive midfield traffic.

Strategic Confusion and a P8 Finish

As the race unfolded, Lewis found himself behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who was on a different tire strategy. Lewis, on fresher medium tires, believed he had the pace to overtake Leclerc and challenge Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli ahead. However, Ferrari's hesitation in issuing team orders led to mounting frustration. When the order finally came, Lewis sarcastically remarked over the radio, "Have a tea break while you're at it, come on!"

After overtaking Leclerc, Lewis tires began to degrade, preventing him from closing the gap to Antonelli. Consequently, Ferrari reversed the team order, allowing Leclerc to pass Lewis again. Lewis ultimately finished eighth, narrowly ahead of Carlos Sainz, who made a late charge in his Williams.

The "Tea Break" Comment and Ferrari's Strategic Woes

Lewis's "tea break" comment highlighted the ongoing issues within Ferrari's strategic decision-making. Post-race, Lewis defended his outburst, stating he wouldn't apologize for being a "fighter" and emphasizing the need for quicker decisions from the team.

Ferrari's team principal, Fred Vasseur, acknowledged the need for improved communication and decision-making processes. The incident underscores the challenges Ferrari faces in providing Lewis with the support he needs to compete at the highest level.

Conclusion: Lewis's Determination Amidst Ferrari's Challenges

Despite the setbacks in Miami, Lewis's determination and skill remain evident. His ability to navigate a challenging race and still secure points showcases his enduring talent. However, for Lewis to achieve further success with Ferrari, the team must address its strategic shortcomings and provide a more competitive package.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Ferrari to see if they can rise to the occasion and support Lewis's pursuit of an eighth world championship.
