LEWIS HAMILTON SLAMS MEXICO GP PENALTY: “PRETTY NUTS”

Lewis Hamilton is pissed at the FIA for not penalizing Verstappen who was the reason for his penalty at the 2025 Mexican GP.
Lewis Hamilton didn’t hold back after the Mexico Grand Prix, calling his 10-second penalty “pretty nuts” and openly questioning Formula 1’s stewarding consistency. The seven-time world champion, who has faced his share of tough calls over the years, dropped to eighth after the time penalty — a frustrating outcome after a strong start and a fierce early battle with Max Verstappen.

“I had a great start, and we were braking into Turn 1,” Lewis said after the race. “I navigated through 1, 2, and 3 and didn’t go off track. Others cut it, held position, and didn’t get penalties. It’s pretty nuts.”

His words echoed what many fans were already saying online — that the rules often seem to shift depending on who’s involved.

A Question Of Consistency In F1 Stewarding

Lewis wasn’t just frustrated for himself — he was speaking to a larger issue that’s been simmering in Formula 1 for years: the lack of consistency in stewarding. When asked if the decision had been explained to him, his reply was sharp yet calm:

“It’s kind of the same as all the other people around me, so…”

The Ferrari driver, now in his debut season with the Scuderia, seemed particularly annoyed that similar situations earlier in the race went unnoticed. While he respected the fight with Verstappen — “That felt like racing” — he couldn’t understand why he was the only one penalized.

“I’m the only one to get a 10-second penalty — a 10-second stop-and-go,” Lewis emphasized. “It just doesn’t make sense.”

What Happened At Turn 4

According to the stewards, Lewis gained a lasting advantage after locking up at Turn 4 and cutting across the grass before rejoining the track ahead of Verstappen. They ruled that he didn’t sufficiently slow down to give back the advantage.

But Lewis saw it differently: “I pinched the front, went down the exit road — it’s the dustiest place on earth — and then I pinched the other car down, so I ended up back in the grass, but it was the exit road.”

His explanation made it clear that it wasn’t an intentional shortcut but rather a moment of survival on a tricky surface.

The Mexico City circuit has always been a challenge — low grip, high altitude, and punishing track limits. Add the unpredictability of stewards’ decisions, and even a veteran like Lewis can be caught out.

The Emotional Toll And Mental Fortitude Of A Champion

Despite the penalty and the frustration, Lewis showed his trademark resilience. He refused to let the disappointment define his weekend.

“There are still some positives to take,” he said. “I don’t really know what to expect moving forward, but I’ll keep trying. I’ll get up tomorrow, train, and prepare. I can’t let those that aren’t necessarily being helpful stop me from moving forward.”

That attitude has defined Lewis’s career. Whether it’s controversial penalties, strategic blunders, or off-track politics, he always channels frustration into focus. The Mexico GP may have tested his patience, but it also reminded everyone why he remains the heart of F1 — a relentless competitor who never backs down.

Ferrari’s Performance: A Silver Lining Amid The Chaos

While the penalty stung, there were signs of progress for Ferrari. The car showed solid pace through the weekend, particularly in qualifying and the opening stint of the race. Lewis looked competitive on race pace and confident behind the wheel — something fans have been eager to see since his move from Mercedes.

For Ferrari, the Mexico GP was another data-rich weekend in preparation for 2026’s huge rule changes. And for Lewis, every lap is part of a longer journey — one that’s less about short-term frustration and more about building a winning foundation in red.

Fans Rally Behind Lewis

Social media lit up immediately after the penalty, with thousands of F1 and Lewis Hamilton fans questioning the stewards’ call. Hashtags like #JusticeForLewis and #F1MexicoGP trended worldwide.

Many felt the punishment didn’t fit the situation, especially when compared to similar incidents that didn’t even receive investigation. Lewis’s honesty and visible frustration only deepened fans’ emotional connection with him — a reminder of why he remains one of the sport’s most beloved figures.

Even in disappointment, Lewis manages to inspire — his calm defiance resonating with fans who have followed his every high and low.

Looking Ahead: Lessons From Mexico

Lewis has always been a student of the sport — analytical, focused, and unshaken by setbacks. While this penalty was frustrating, it adds to the fire that’s been burning since his move to Ferrari.

The Mexico race was a reminder that F1 isn’t just about raw speed. It’s about navigating politics, precision, and persistence. Lewis’s ability to stay composed in the face of controversy shows exactly why he’s a seven-time F1 world champion and why Ferrari’s faith in him remains unshaken.

Every tough weekend is another chance to come back stronger. As Lewis himself said, “I’ll keep trying.”

And that’s what makes him who he is — a fighter, a racer, and the beating heart of Formula 1.
