Hamilton bemoans downgrades after qualy woe

Saturday 9th May 2009

Any thought that Spain would herald a quick comeback for McLaren has been scotched by Lewis Hamilton after he qualified just 14th for Sunday's grand prix.

With team-mate Heikki Kovalainen unable even to reach the second round of qualifying, Hamilton's bid to reach the top-ten shoot-out looked doomed from the outset. And so it proved, with his McLaren finishing Qualy 2 in a lowly 14th position.

"A bit of a disappointing session. There's lots than can happen in the race so we just hope. A point would be great."

Asked if the car was better with the upgrades McLaren have delivered for Barcelona, Hamilton's answer was blunt and to the point:

"No."
