Well that was exciting. Another exciting qualifying, 5 in a row.2009 is shaping up to be a good season.
Not really surprised to see the 2 Brawns in front, expected really. What was surprising was the way it played out. I was looking at Barrichello to take pole when Vettel took it, was settled thereand quite happy with it. But then Button pulled out that pole from nowhere and he started that lap with 2 seconds to spare. That was incredible.
Massa was a surprise but then again Ferrari had those new bits fitted to the car. Kimi was looking good too but again Ferrari's strategy cocked up. Not surprised really. Massa is the only KERS car in front so expect a lightning getaway. Hopefully Vettel blocks him into turn 1. The Toyotas didn't do so wellbut at least they're in the top 10. Tyre choices would be crucial tomorrow.
Alonso as usual cannot be discounted though we'll have to wait for the weights to be published to know whether he was on fumes just to please the fans. BMW improved I thought, they got into Q2 then Q3, shame about Heidfeld. But the most perplexing was Williams. Rosberg always shows good practice pace but it comes to nothing during qualifying. They've got to figure that out sooner rather than later. Everybody else is no surprise although I was hoping for a better showing from Buemi.
The non surprise but still disappointing was McLaren. Heikki was slow all weekend and he couldn't get his car to perform up to any standard considered good for McLaren. I know he is faster than he looks but he just can't wring that car like Lewis can. Talking about Lewis, he looked good for Q3 really but somehow in the middle of Q2 he looked like he gave up. Like he settled for position. That is not like him at all. What was he doing? Maybe the team opted to save the engine and try strategy tomorrow. We'll see. Good luck Lewis and push like hell.
