Qualy Report: Button takes another pole for Brawn

Saturday 4th April 2009

There seems to be no stopping Brawn GP when it really counts as Jenson Button bagged his second pole position of the season in Malaysia on Saturday.

The Brit, who clinched the victory in Australia last weekend after leading from pole to flag, once again proved to have the pace as he put his Brawn GP at the front of the pack.

It was yet another impressive showing from Button, who edged Toyota's Jarno Trulli by just 0.092s as the two were left to battle for pole position.

Button, who already had the P1 slot to his name, raised the bar with a 1:35.181 on his final tour across the line, giving him those few vital tenths need to hold off Trulli, who also improved on his last lap but not enough to see off Button.

Sebastian Vettel qualified in third place, 0.337s off the pace. The Red Bull racer, though, will move down ten places after incurring a penalty at the previous race in Australia.

Rubens Barrichello is another set to drop as despite qualifying in fourth place, he will start P9 on the grid after a gearbox change on Friday.

Timo Glock was next in line, finishing half a second down and ahead of Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber and Robert Kubica.

But while F1 seems to have a new order at the top of the pack, the sport's front-runners of recent years, Ferrari and McLaren, found themselves down the order. While Kimi Raikkonen could only manage ninth place, a mistake from Ferrari saw his team-mate Felipe Massa qualify P16.

And it wasn't any better for McLaren as Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen are 13th and 14th on the grid. Hamilton will, however, start in 12th place due to Vettel's penalty putting him between the two McLarens on the grid.
